The depraved mind and heinous activities of a Pedophile exposed...

Having My Say

The author was inspired to write ‘Poor Poppy and the Chocolate Man’ to help bring to the attention of all parents the realization that their children can become victims of a pedophile. At the same time she wishes to give the reader an insight into behind the scenes of the unknowing families, the law enforcement’s detectives’ efforts to help stamp out these ever increasing everyday heinous acts of behavior and the recognition for the introduction of harsher sentences.

The author also wishes to state that whilst the Australian Government has apologised to the stolen generation it is her heartfelt wish that through the pages of ‘Poor Poppy and the Chocolate Man’ a sincere apology will reach all of the children who have become victims of a pedophile.

An Article

With the advent of the Whitlam and Fraser governments, an authentic Australian cultural identity was brought into being by fiat, with the establishment of such agencies as the Australia Council and the Film Commission. Overnight, Australian stories told by Australians in Australian accents were available to Australian consumers.

In the book industry, independent publishers and booksellers emerged alongside multinational publishers who saw the commercial benefits of investing in local writers. By the 1990s, the Australian publishing scene had matured sufficiently to view itself as local in origin and global in practice.” [1] (Louise Adler May 2009)

Louise Adler in her article ‘Protect or be damned’ argues that by abolishing the principle of territorial copyright of Australian stories it will wind back the clock on a proud and profitable publishing culture.

I wish to argue that it is far from truth that all Australian stories written by many Australian writers enjoy the commercial benefits of being published here in Australia.

When I submitted the Synopsis of my story “Poor Poppy and the Chocolate Man” to three literary agencies they all said the same thing:

“We do not feel sufficiently confident that we could place your work with a publisher. This is a very subjective business and another agency or publisher may well disagree.”

Interestingly enough all three of them retained my biography which also contained the reasons for wanting to publish my story. Was this in order to seek Australian publishing rights should it be either published in America and/or self published through the extensive outlets that have since been made available to me?

However, I must point out that when I was approached by an American Literary Agency to submit not only my Synopsis, but also the first three chapters, I did not offer my work to any more Australian agents or publishers.  Currently through my website www.arewethealiens.com I am promoting my book in anticipation of it being published either by an American Publisher and/or through self publishing.

The point I am trying to make is  –

·         My story, which is based on true Australian facts and the consequences of the victims and their families being subject to the heinous behavior of a pedophile, is being classed as “non Australian type literature.”

·         Yet, constantly here in Australia, we are subject to the following headlines in our daily newspapers –

o        Charity pays victims to protect pedophile http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25456176-662,00.html

o        Elderly sex predator jailed http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/05/11/2566625.htm?section=justin

o        Investigation launched into Melbourne children's doctor http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25419394-661,00.html

o        Serial rapist jailed for 27 years http://www.theage.com.au/national/serial-rapist-jailed-for-27-years-20090513-b2p7.html

And, so it goes on.

As I state in the

“The author was inspired to write ‘Poor Poppy and the Chocolate Man’ to help bring to the attention of all parents the realization that their children can become victims of a pedophile. At the same time she wishes to give the reader an insight into behind the scenes of the unknowing families, the law enforcement’s detectives’ efforts to help stamp out these ever increasing everyday heinous acts of behavior and the recognition for the introduction of harsher sentences.”

I would also like to point out that, because of the nature of the story titled ‘Poor Poppy and the Chocolate Man’, I have received numerous requests for a published version. Many counselors and members of the education system have suggested that it should be included in the libraries of all schools and colleges.

all I could get when I submitted my article to The Monthly was the following:

"Dear Rose Taylor,

Thank you for your email. As your article is already published online it is not suitable for the magazine. The Monthly only publishes work that has not appeared elsewhere previously.

We hope the piece reaches a lot of readers. (212 as at 11/12/09RT).

Best wishes

Although my website has been available since late 1999 my pages have never reached the hits that our current Prime Minister would enjoy with regard to his 7000 word essay the monthly published;  [2]  in all honesty they never could. In spite of this, I am pleased to report that with the help of 'Google' my article can be found. [3]

As I see it, until unknown and/or new writers can get reasonable rights to be both represented and published here in Australia, Louise Adler would do well to center her aggravation elsewhere.

Update: Monday 25th May, 2009 - Louise Adler informed Jon Faine ABC 774 Morning Show that she is about to publish 'Grollo's' Biography.  To his credit he was not overly impressed.
